INTEGRATED BACKUP AND RESTORE
Improve resiliency and enable prompt recovery of archived data.
Backup and Restore Natively
The act of performing automated data backups must be done to reduce the risk of data loss, and protection schemes vary by the amount of data to be backed-up, the time available to perform the process, and the frequency of change for the underlying data. But technology requirements and execution practices are changing with the emergence of sophisticated cybercriminal attacks and malicious activities of privileged insiders. It’s no longer acceptable to store the contents in clear-text form, and few IT managers have experience with, nor should they be in-charge of, security controls.
Stealing an organization’s sensitive data by walking away with one or more backup tapes has always been a risk, but most backups are stored in physical locations accessed by a limited number of IT staff members. Copies regularly rotated off-site are normally kept in an off-line storage facility improving protections against fires, floods and other perils, but not against cyberthieves. Data backup is now just one more element in a comprehensive data governance plan.
To be complete, security must extend to all forms of data storage, and the time it takes to recover from an attack is an increasingly important strategic consideration. The integration of least-privileged access controls, data encryption and secure off-line or off-site storage repositories provides the best solution for protecting against unauthorized access and data theft. Anything less, and your organization may face regulatory compliance fines and data loss reporting requirements or worse, ransomware demands.
